blizzard has now confirmed that sc2 modding features are not intended to be used on client-side mods for sc2 (such as the sc2 patch), but that they will, once again, allow modders to make freely available clients for testing their mods. in that same announcement, blizzard also stated that "there are no plans to allow clients that directly modify the game code to be used for official blizzard entertainment games, including starcraft 2."
also, in the same announcement, blizzard states that "starting with the august 12 patch, all client-side modifications (including changes to the game code) that have the potential to break the game will be prohibited from being used for official blizzard entertainment games including starcraft ii."
